TATTOO CONVENTION COVERAGE – Inxtravaganza Anaheim, CA 2 of 2

SullenTV and host Bernadette Macias finish up 2013 Inxtravaganza Tattoo Convention with Corey Miller, London Reese, Johnny Quintana, Jeremiah Barba, Allan Rivera and Abey Alvarez.

Corey Miller is a tattoo artist and television personality. He began tattooing at the age of 15. He is the owner of a tattoo shop in Upland, California called Six Feet Under. He was one of the core tattoo artists on the reality television show LA Ink. Miller specializes in black and gray portraits and dragon art.

London Reese- “I am merely a man; suffocated by art.” London is a southern California native who loves life and all of the art in it. He grew up with a pencil in his hand and an unrelenting passion for illustration. Music has always been an important part of his life and continues to inspire all of his artistic endeavors. He is a self-taught tattoo artist. He did his first few tattoos in 2006 while studying art in college. After a bit of development and some real soul searching, he began tattooing full-time in 2008. Graphic realism and illustrative tattooing have become his main interest and focus in his work. He is constantly striving to progress as an artist and hopes that it comes through in every tattoo that he does. “The art of tattooing is sacred to me and I am honored to be a part of such an amazing community of artists. Cheers.”

Johnny Quintana was born on April 6, 1979 in San Bernandino, California. His family then moved to Guanajuato, Mexico, where he lived for the first ten years of his life. Johnny was exposed to the beauty of the land, the people, the language and dialects and the amazing landscapes of Mexico. The setting of his childhood was surrounded by the richness and purity of the culture which brings about a lot of influence in his early works. Most of Johnny’s early works and drawings reflect the colorful and diverse Mexican culture: The people, their homes, market places, fields, churches, and towns. Drawing and painting were constant companions throughout his school years. Art became his constant outlet for expression. Johnny wanted to exhibit his own personal interpretations of what this land offered his eyes.

Jeremiah Barba,Tattoos at Outer Limits Tattoo Long Beach,CA.Specializing in the Dark Art style.Has been Tattooing for over 14 years.Has one over 60 awards from conventions all over the world. Also been featured in the industries best tattoo magazines. If you you would like to get tattooed by him.please check out jbarba.net. Allan Rivera owns and operates Renaissance Studios. Allan Rivera has been tattooing for 7 years, and his talents range from portraits and black and grey fine line tattooing, to Japanese traditional and full color custom work. He has built a loyal following and, in 2012, decided to open up his own studio in order to accommodate the work load. Allan Rivera met with close friend Joe Diorio, and within months of their discussion, the two opened for business. Allan decided to create his ideal tattoo studio: a comfortable environment, a gracious attitude, and above all else, a fervent desire to continue perfecting his craft. San Clemente was the obvious location choice as Allan has grown up and currently lives just a few short miles north on PCH.

Abey Alvarez – Born in East Los Angeles and raised in Pomona, California, Abey has a family of three kids (Trinity, Lil Abey, and Jayla), and a beautiful girlfriend (Jenna). They are the love of his life and his motivation. Abey grew up working in a barber shop since the age of 5 sweeping, cleaning windows, and shining shoes. By the age of 15, Abey was cutting hair. In his twenties, Abey managed to end up in prison, and that’s when it all started. His celly, Beto, from East Los Angeles, introduced him to tattooing, and man does time fly. It’s taken him for a crazy ride. Abey now works for Lowrider Tattoo, and he would not have it any other way. Abey specialize in Black and Grey (Realism).

BIOGRAPHIES:
BIG GUS: Tattoo Artist on Hit TV Show TATTOO NIGHTMARES. Big Gus was born and raised in the streets of Los Angeles. Big Gus’ mother gave him his first set of paint brushes at the young age of 5 years old. Unfortunately, his mother passed away when Gus was just 19 years old. All though she is not around any more, her artistic influence on her son still lives on today. Gus has a bit of a dark past, growing up with a ruff crowd and getting involved with gang banging at a young age. He was always painting murals in the Los Angels Riverbed and showcasing his graffiti skills all around L.A. Some of the older OG’s saw his skills and sort of forced him to pick up a tattoo machine to ink up the homies. Big Gus began tattooing at the age of 14. He has been a self taught artist his whole life, all though paying close attention to those better then he was to improve on his skills as an artist. He started tattooing professionally at age 22 out of Distinctive Ink in Pico Rivera. He studied and observed all of the different styles and techniques. He became a fan of artists such as Jack Rudy, Joe Capobianco, Freddy Negrete, Paul Booth, Bob Tyrell and so many others. Some of the respected old school artists like CatFish Carl, Tony Olivas, and Rick Walters schooled Big Gus on the fact that tattooists honoring the traditions and respecting the legacy and talents of fellow artists were becoming a dying breed. He knew that he was part of a new generation of these artists, and it was part of his responsibility to keep these traditions alive. Today Big Gus is a world class and world known tattoo artist. His popular style of fine line, Black and Grey-Photorealism graces the pages of Tattoo Publications in 40 countries.

Megan Massacre – Standing out amongst the artists featured on “NY Ink”, Megan is the Tattoo artist, model, DJ and TV personality whose artistic talent, engaging personality, and beautiful looks ensure her contributions to the show are always memorable. Megan also starred and stars in the “America’s Worst Tattoos.” Based out of New York City and originally from Eastern Philadelphia, Megan tattoos out of the well-known NYC tattoo studio “The Wooster St. Social Club” located in the Soho neighborhood of Manhattan. Megan has been tattooing since 2004 and her artwork can be described as creepy yet cute; combining dark imagery with bold vibrant color to create a unique, whimsical style that is of no other.

Carlos Torres has been tattooing for about 15 years. He got his big break at So. Cal Tattoo in San Pedro CA. It was there he learned the most and started to perfect his tattoo portfolio. Specializing in Black & Gray realism, he loves doing all tattoos, color, portraits, etc. He began painting about 7 years ago and has a deep passion for it. He has painted the poster/banner for the Ink-n-Iron Tattoo Festival in Long Beach CA for the past 4 years, and just painted the poster for the Denmark, Copenhagen Tattoo Convention.Carlos works and owns Timeline Gallery in San Pedro CA. Carlos is a worldwide multi-award winner ranging from small black & gray to large black & gray to best backpiece etc.

Artist Alan Padilla: Thirteen years ago, a tattoo shop offered to buy some of Alan’s artwork to use for future tattoos. “I was surprised to find out that I could make money off of my art. I never thought that I would be able to make a living off of it but it was nice to know that I could make some extra money from it.” Alan was working in construction and carpentering when he started tattooing. He used to tattoo on the weekends and after work. He decided to go fulltime once making enough money. It’s been eight years since he has been tattooing full time. “Every time that I work with great artists, I learn more but I will say that I feel a lot more confident since I’ve been doing tattoos fulltime.” His “charra” paintings were influenced from his hometown in Mexico.”I really hope that my art will inspire a young generation, since I had people that inspired me. I want people to know that they should never give up on any goal that they may have in life because anything is possible and I’m an example of that.”
